add lyrics

Help

It's easy to add lyrics to this site - here's a simple step-by-step guide to get you adding your first lyrics.

Step 1

The first thing you need to do is to register for an account on the Journals. This to stop spam, and also allows you to receive messages from like-minded lyric authors. It's harmless and easy, promise!

Step 2

Search for the artist and the album (not the song title) that the song is on. In this example, we are going to add "Yellow" by Coldplay, which is on the "Parachutes" album. Type in the album (e.g. "Coldplay - Parachutes") and press Enter.

Example: Searching

Step 3

Is the song already listed in the album listing? Does it have a blue link? If it does, then the lyric already exists - you can try another.

If a link to the song does not already exist, you can click on "Edit This Page" at the top of the page.

Example: Click "Edit This Page"

We are going to add a link to our new lyric on the album page; you can do this by typing in (for example):
# [\[Coldplay - Yellow]]

Example: Adding the link to the new lyric

Notice that we have to add the Artist too, and we place it in the track order number of the album (i.e. track 3 in this case). After you do this, press Save Page, and your new link should appear on the page. The link should be a red link; if it is, click on it.

If the link exists, but is in a red link, skip step two by clicking on the red link to create the new page.

Example: Click on the missing page to create it

When the site asks you if you want to create a new page, click yes.

Step 4

We are now going to actually add the lyric. Click on the "Generate Template from Title" link in the Tools box on the side. This way, we can find the lyric later.

Example: Click on "Generate Template from Title"

Now, put in the lyrics you want to add.

So, for example, the Coldplay song that we are working on as an example would look like this:

Example: Fill in the source field, and enter in the lyrics. Then click save!

Now you can just click save and you've just added your first lyric page (which in our example would be Coldplay - Yellow). Congratulations!
