It is never ending!! I've just recieved today my second 103 assignment. It's oral and done it pairs. My half dosn't even like marketing!! We are given a sheet with 8 questions to research so we split it in half. I'm doing:

1. "Subcultures are often studied to give researchers an insight into consumption practises - why are the useful examples of the role of consumption in consumers lives?"
2. "Atmospherics are of vital importance in any servicescape. How might atompsheric elements be used to manipulate consumption in the retail setting?"
3. "Explain why we study perceptions in consumption behaviour and provide examples of how top-down processing is used in marketing?"
4. "Evaluate the use of demographic segmentation, particulary the limitations compared to psychographic segmentation"

An idea that struck me when reading number 2 was a story that Keely told me about how she went to work one day and decided to have popcorn for dinner so she cooked it and put it underneath the counter till her break. They almost sold all their popcorn that night. She works at a video store by the way, I don't know why they wouldn't do that all the time. It would invoke peoples feelings of cuddling up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn with a good movie. That idea well and truly has been sold to us consumers. Since her boss is in financial doo doo it might help.

However, since I'm not going to be here these holidays (my flight leaves before 10am on Saturday morning and returns after 5pm the following Sunday) it's going to make it very aquward meeting up with my half to discuss the answers. Since my mark partly depends on her she had better do a good job! Lol I don't do team work very well, I'm going to be well annoyed if she dosn't do a good job. We are presenting it the first Monday after the break and our pair is at 2.20pm.

I've a tonne of work to do this break as well. I've got 2 exams to study for, although with economics plussage applies so I could just not turn up. But I want to know how I'm doing. My Accounting exam is the day after my economics exam, great T_T because I need 35%+ in that exam in order to get terms, and thus sit the finance exam. I've also got this assignment to do for marketing. I was thinking about going home to study but it's just too freaking cold but the library is nice and warm and closes at 11pm so I can just make my way to the bus stop and take a bus home.

Management lecture was interesting, the computer froze and so our lecturer called up the tech and then made him apologise to us because the computer was wasting the time that we had paid for. I actually felt sorry for the guy. I would have hated to have worked under this lecturer he sounds like an ass. It was his stupid video that made the computer have a heart attack in the first place.

I wanted to donate blood today even though I hate seeing blood and needles. Firstly, my mouth goes dry, then I start shaking, then I start to sweat and if the pain/blood isn't gone by then I start to feel dizzy. I would put up with all of that in order for someone else to live. I'm O+ so I'm a universal donor. You should have seen me all the times I've had to have blood tests. Lets just say I procrastinate. For about 3 months. Till the Doctor rings to ask if I've had my test yet because he was missing the results.
But I couldn't because I'd had a pericing in the last 6months. This sucks. Oh well I guess if you've contracted HepB or what ever then you would come down with symptoms and they wouldn't want your blood anyways. I trust Vicky to a certain extent when she done my pericing gloves and iodine and everything.

$63.00 for my management communications workbook. Thats including 10% student discount. I've seen bigger NOVELS for less. Oh well at least I can sell it on next year and ask about $50 for it. I refuse to buy textbooks this semester as they have all the textbooks (between 4-6 copies of each) at the reserve desk. I think the only paper with issues doing it that way would be 101 accounting and finance. Because we do a sort of questions and answers type thing on a friday which is helpfull if you have your textbook, tutourials which you are supposed to bring your textbook, and P.A.S.S where its helpfull to have your textbook. Thing is, this textbook is about $120 including student discount. NO FRIGGIN WAY MATE!! so I'm just going to photocopy the questions.
I'm hoping to sell my HSFY textbooks for close to new value and I'm going to throw in my labcoat as well, it's a small and there is a done missing but it would get the buyer set up for the first semester and they wouldn't need to worry about it when they start. My textbooks are in next to BRAND NEW condtion and I still have all the little books that went with my anatomy and phsiology textbook. At the moment they are sitting on the shelf looking forlorn. Dosn't help that the university changes its papers every couple of years T_T

I think I may have to use that $350 from the taxman to buy a new phone. Since my current one is being held together by sticky tape. But that means I'm going to have to find some other way to get my stuff to Wellington. Unless I just sell it all off. I am taking quite a lot of stuff back when I go up in August but it won't even be half.

So I've checked and the only tutorial I have that isn't weekly is 103 which is marketing. This is both good and bad. It's good because I'm not going to get bored with the amount of time that I'm going to have as tutorials need preperation and certain problems attempted etc. However, it's bad because 101, 104 and 105 (thats accounting and finance, economics and management) all start really early on in the case of 101 a thursday morning and the rest on a friday and it's too late to change. Hmm oh well I suppose me being up early isn't such a bad thing...

The Sims on PSP is taking over my life. I wish I could use that $350 I'm getting from the taxman to buy that PSP, however I need to use it for getting my things up to Wellington. I only came down here with a suitcase of things and some how I've managed to aquire at least a couple more suitcases worth of stuff. I'm soooo excited about moving. Like it's almost all I think about - when I'm not thinking about playing the sims hahaha. Oh yeah I made my sims into a lesbian couple <3 with a dog (it's the sims pets btw) sooo sterotypical. It made me laugh heaps. Maybe I can make them polygymous? polyamours?

P.A.S.S (peer assisted study sessions) looks really good. Our guys name is Mitchell lol (my surname is Mitchell) hopefully tommrrow he can explain to me what the hell I'm supposed to be doing with these financial statements. Honestly I attempted the question about them in the textbook and it was just WOOSH over my head. Management is friggin boring, Economics is quite hard but interesting and Marketing is more like psychology.

I'm having butter chicken tonight if the fridge hasn't re-frozen my chicken.

Our 101 lecturer said that if we wanted we could go have a look on google for financial reports so I am now just looking at the financial reports of my old work, it's from 2002 so its a bit old but it will do. I never knew they were owned my A2 Coorporation. A2 is, if you don't know, a type of milk prodeced only by less than half of all cows. It's a special protien or something. I wonder what made them go into eggs. Anywho, I had no idea they owned mainland poultry. As I read it I can see all the bits of business coming together - management, accounting, finance, marketing... it's amazing. I hope I can find a job I love in this area.

However, I'm not so fond of the ethics I can see coming through in the opening letter to shareholders. It seems like they're embellishing the facts about A1 milk to boost sales (..'to establish a link...' instead of something to the nature of seeing if there is actually one). Dodgy marketing practises I can tell you!! Thats what I was just reading about today when I was doing some reading for marketing.

So yes. Just for interest. Still need to remember what all the columns are for. I think a list of definiations will help me a lot.

-feigns news anchor voice- In other breaking news tonight the students at the University of Otago have voted on elected the 17th member of the Otago University Students Association excutive - a queer rep! Yay us! And those stoners (ie people from NORML) had people walk out on them so qurom wasn't reached. Poor them. I actually stayed, even though I was going to vote mightly against.

I got some more results notices and my HUBS results has got up to C. I am one percent away from getting a C+!!! I was right, I got a B- for both internals I think at 64%. That or I am one percent away. Meh hopefully business is better! I think I should talk to my tutor and see if I'm one the right track re: my assignment.
