Visit to Sydney in June 2009

On happier note, this year me and Jevon visited Leash and Simon in Sydney. We arrived in Sydney on 13 June 2009. We decided to be insane and travelled by car from Palmerston North to Wellington and then hop on on the plane on the same day. I spent 13 to 19 June in Sydney. While we were their we went to Taronga Zoo, to the IMAX, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and to the Sydney Opera House. Jevon left a couple days earlier than me to visit his dad in Perth while I stayed in Sydney with Leash and Simon. I did lots of shopping and found lots of really cool shopping areas.

Billboard in the infamous Kings Cross, Sydney

Awesome old school clock in a Sydney Mall, I love old stuff

Wicked old building in Sydney, can't remember what it's called.

Awesome Chiness dragon statue at Darling Harbour, Sydney

Sydney Opera House during the light show

A koala at Taronga Zoo. They control the weather!

Sydney Harbour

Me and Jevon at Kings Cross

Tone Up: Fat Busting Techniques
Want to kick-start your weight loss before summer rolls around? We've found four fat busting techniques to slip into your everyday routine... Pump iron
Weight training and strength training exercises such as lunges, sit ups, Pilates, bench presses, rowing and press ups are great for reducing your body fat. These types of exercise help you build up muscle. By increasing your muscle mass you increase the amount of energy your body burns off because muscle tissue is more metabolically active than fat. However, weight training only works if you do it on a regular basis.

Get moving
Getting your heart rate up by doing cardio helps you burn off fat. Doing cardio helps weight loss by increasing your energy expenditure - to lose weight need to use more energy than you put into your body. Cardio increases your muscle mass, which also boosts the amount of fat your body burns off. Skiing, roller skating, rowing, cycling, running and skipping...

If you're always feeling tired, get the kickstart you need with our easy energy boosting tips...Eat energy boosting nutrientsIronIron carries oxygen around the body and is a vital part of your immune system, which keeps you from getting tired. Get plenty of iron in your diet by eating meat, fish, seafood, breakfast cereals, beans, lentils and chicken. When you eat non-meat sources of iron, have some vitamin C (e.g. example, citrus fruits, potatoes, broccoli, kiwi fruit) with your meal to help you absorb more iron. Also, avoid phytates, which are found in bran and polyphenols, which are found in coffee and tea foods - these block absorption of iron. Remember if you’re vegetarian or pregnant you need extra iron. IodineGet some iodine into you. Iodine is required to make thyroid hormones, which help control energy metabolism, and make you feel energised and alert. Boost your iodine levels by using iodised salt (...

Should You Go Organic?
Organic – we’ve been hearing a lot about this term lately and there might be a bit of confusion as to whether going organic is just a fad or the real thing. We'll begin with the definition of what organic products are. Organic food and products are those that are produced naturally – that is organic food is food that has been grown without the use artificial fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides, human waste, genetic modification, food additives or ionizing radiation.

Organic food includes food products from animals have been raised without been dosed without unnecessary antibiotics and growth hormones. Keeping the Christmas Kilos at Bay

Christmas is just around the corner and this means plenty of work functions and social gatherings. Where there’s a party, there’s food and drink, which unfortunately may lead to a little extra padding. So to help you keep those extra kilos at bay, read below for a few healthy tips…

1: Quality versus quantity
It’s not how much you eat, but the quality of food that’s important. Remember to savour your food, so you don’t need to eat as much. Take your time eating, put your fork down every so often and take a sip of water between bites. If you feel like dessert, wait at least 20 minutes, and then see if you would sill like some dessert.

2: Hidden calories
Surprisingly, many drinks are high in energy and if you drink too much, then you may experience weight gain. Drinks to watch out for include; milkshakes, alcoholic beverages (especially RTDs), fruit juice, and full sugar fizzy. So instead of sipping sugary, alcoholic drinks, try green te...

5 Bad Cravings Substitutes

When the clock strikes 3pm, do you feel tired and hungry? Do you reach for sugary and salty snacks for a pick me up? If so, you might want to try a healthier alternative.
Chocolate…
Swap a chocolate bar for chocolate dairy food. Dairy food is lower in saturated fat, energy and sugar than chocolate, plus it is higher in calcium which is great for your bones. You could also try having a glass of Milo mixed with low fat milk to curb your chocolate craving and hunger.

Energy boost
If your feeling tired and haven’t eaten all day, perhaps you could try eating something! Because chances are you are feeling fatigued because your blood sugar levels are too low. If you have eaten, and you need a pick me up instead of reaching for a V or Red Bull go for herbal tea or an apple. Most tea contains caffeine, but tea is lower in teeth attacking acid and sugar than energy drinks. Alternatively, eat an apple – these crunchy delights wake you up just as much as coffee.
