This is what happens when you dont have books/telly/internet to keep you entertained....
Who had the most children in the world?
Back in the 1700's in Shuya, Russia lived a peasant named Feodor Vassilyev who had two wives.
No he did not have two wives at the same time, regardless, it's his first wife that interests us anyways.
Seems being a peasant in the 1700's in Shuya, Russia is quite boring and there's not much to do so Mrs. Feodor Vassilyev kept busy having children.
In fact she had the world's most children ever recorded.
Between 1725 and 1765 Mrs. Feodor Vassilyev had 69 children from 27 pregnancies which included 16 sets of twins, 7 sets of triplets and 4 sets of quadruplets.

I want to be loved like this...

An incredible love story has come out of China recently and managed to touch the world.
It is a story of a man and an older woman who ran off to live and love each other in peace for over half a century. Over 50 years ago, Liu, a 19 year-old boy, fell in love with a 29 year-old widowed mother named Xu. At that time, it was unacceptable and immoral for a young man to love an older woman. To avoid the market gossip, the couple decided to elope and lived in a cave in Jiangjin County in Southern ChongQing area. In the beginning, they had nothing, no electricity or even food. They had to eat grass and roots they found in the mountain, and Liu made a kerosene lamp that they used to light up their lives.
In the second year of living in the mountain, Liu began and continued for over 50 years, to hand-carve the steps so that his wife could get down the mountain easily.

Half a century later in 2001, a group of adventurers were exploring the forest and were surprised to find the elderly couple and the over 6,000 hand-carved steps.
Liu MingSheng, one of their seven children said, 'My parents loved each other so much, they have lived in seclusion for over 50 years and never been apart a single day. He hand carved more than 6,000 steps over the years for my mother's convenience, although she doesn't go down the mountain that much.'
The couple had lived in peace for over 50 years until last week. Liu, now 72 years, returned from his daily farm work and collapsed. Xu sat and prayed with her husband as he passed away in her arms. So in love with Xu, was Liu, that no one was able to release the grip he had on his wife's hand even after he had passed away. In 2006, their story became one of the top 10 love stories from China , collected by the Chinese Women Weekly.
The local government has decided to preserve the love ladder and the place they lived as a museum, so this love story can live forever.

Good times

Yesterday should have been a terrible day as I was "eyes falling out of my head" tired after pulling an all-nighter to write a story for class.
BUT
Instead I had a fantastic day!
I got my story done and (touch wood!) I think it is a good 'un. I am proud of it anyway.
The lovely people at Penguin Publishing sent me two books I badly want to read/review on same day courier so they arrived the same day as I requested them. Gotta love that!
I won a web cam from the lovelyfolk at George FM
I think I did well in my test yesterday afternoon too - def passed but will have to wait to see how well I did.
Aced shorthand "pre-test" yesterday and 99% sure (touch wood...again!) that I passed the actual test of 50 words per minute today too.

Up and Down
Thursday 24 April 2008 - 9.41pm
|
It's been a strange old up and down day. UP - Paddy seems to be on the mend...although I do suspect the vet was right and it is a behavioral response. He and Frankie are really not getting along atm, exasibated by Michael being away last week and me having to divvy up my cat cuddling time with her and Guntha as well as Sir Paddington which he really didn't like (case in point - he sprayed on Frankie's sleeping spot...in our bedroom...on my clothes .) DOWN - I had the absolute shite night of sleep spending from around 2.30am to 5.45am awake and tossing and turning trying to fall back asleep. UP - I did my first professional interview and it went really well! I went in armed with my list of prepared questions but was able to generate heaps more through the conversation with my subject (a skill we have to learn.) I am hoping to do really well with this assignment cos my interview lady was so lovely and I wanna do her proud (even though I have never met her before!) DOWN - I saw my "first love" in town today; apparently he lives in Hamilton now too. It shouldn't have had any effect on me but I dunno, got me thinking about the past and how I used to feel about him. *sigh* UP - My Mum was in town briefly!!! She was on her way to Auckland so stopped and had lunch with Michael and I, did a spot of shopping and then carried on her journey. She is gonna drop in on her way home on Mon/Tues too DOWN - Michael annouced his parents are coming to stay on Sunday night. I dunno if I am feeling stressy about this because it's the stereotypical thing to do or what. I genuinely like his parents...I just don't always feel 100% comfortable around them. *Shrug* UP - I am so totally in with Duffy and have been thrashing her album Rockferry for the past 24 hours. DOWN - My two weeks holiday are coming to an end. Don't get me wrong, I my course...I just being on holiday too!

Poor old Paddy - just got back from taking him to the vets after a very long and unhappy night with him desperately trying to pee and nothing happening.
But....
After a very thorough exam there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with him!
Basically the vet believes the symptoms he is displaying are due to stress and manifesting themselves physically as needing to constantly urinate. He is being a cat hypochondriac!
So some pain relief is the prescription to try and fool him into thinking he is healed and if that doesn't work then it's kitty anti anxiety medication.

Day 3
Wednesday 16 April 2008 - 6.56pm
|
I get to experience real human contact this evening - yay! Our three cats are wonderful for cuddles but great conversationalists they are not. The girls of my class are having a coffee/dessert get together at Iguana and I can't wait. I wanna hear all the gossip from what happened after Michael and I left our class bbq on Saturday I have spent the day watching the comings and goings of our neighbours. I can't report much about the activities of the Chinese family on our left - they keep their curtains and blinds drawn 24/7. I hate to think how musty and fungally their house must be. The couple on the corner who have the blazing domestics have been quiet of late too - the cops haven't been for at least 2 weeks now. I think 3 weeks is the record since we moved here. The students in the house next door have been moving out the last couple of days. A big skip arrived Sunday morning and within 2 hours it was full to overflowing with broken furniture and random crap. The real estate agent arrived this morning to collect the keys. I am dying of curiousity to know what the place is like inside. I know it has a bright orange living room cos unlike our Chinese neighbours, the students never close their curtains and when the lights are on you get a really good view straight in! It also has a third bedroom upstairs (it is 3 levels) with a balcony. Mmmm how blissful could that be? Our street has been really busy this week. Usually it takes until about 8.30am for it to be packed with cars (our street is a very convenient short walk across the bridge to the centre of town) but with the (blissful, much needed) rain, all free spaces are taken by 7.50am max. It's amusing watching commuters trawl up and down the street hoping someone will magically give up their space. I guess the traffic action won't abate this weekend as it usually does with the V8s on. I drove the circuit today - it's amazing how just seeing all the fencing and hordings up makes you feel like throwing the car sideways into the corners when usually I am the most staid and conservative of drivers! All the race cars are in position on pit row now. *drool* I actually had no intention of driving the track today. I went out to get a Mocha, got sushi and a can of V instead and then got a little off route because of all the road closures about the city. Was a nice little diversion for the day anyway, especially since the rain had subsided so I could wind the windows down (the rain was replaced with muggy, overcastness) and blast S Club 7 Anyway, it's time to go get my slap on (being home alone means eating comfort food means pimple outbreak means lots of concealer needed tonight!) and then go meet the girls. I am jealous that two of them are out on work experience at the moment but the plus side is that I should be nice and refreshed when we start back in 10 days time and ready to tackle a hard core 2nd half of semester headon.

Day 2

I didn't sleep very well last night. It was odd being in our bed all alone. Also maybe I wasn't used to hearing the rain on the roof. It is still raining now - beautiful, nourishing rain which the Waikato so badly needs. I feel like running outside and dancing in it except I don't want to stop any precious drops from reaching the draught ravenged soil ... and I don't fancy spending my two week break with a cold.
I realised last night that it was the date that Michael and I moved in together in our house in Palmy. Time sure flies! So much has happened in that year. Fingers crossed there will be many more ahead of us.

Day 1
Monday 14 April 2008 - 7.00pm

Day one of my week all by myself has begun; I dropped Michael at the airport at 6.20am this morning so he could fly to Palmerston North for work. He is scheduled to return on Friday night.
I miss my honeypot already.
It's raining gently here at the moment, as it has been all day, the perfect match to my melancholy mood.
It's not all doom and gloom though - I am on holiday for the next two weeks though have plenty of assignments and study to keep me busy.
