Wee hee!!!!!

I passed 60 words per minute in shorthand today - the first of my class to do so! I am so proud and pleased cos I really thought I had failed!

My goal now is to hit 70 words by the end of term - just over three weeks away.

In not so happy news, I am really concerned about Paddy who goes backwards every night with his problem peeing until he gets his next lot of medication in the morning. :S My poor boy, I hate seeming him in discomfort and unhappy. I am waiting for the vet to ring me back to discuss the next course of action.

Pawphin Part II

And now I have to retract all the terrible things I muttered under my breath about Paddy a few weeks ago.

He started behaving very oddly again yesterday morning, using his litter box every 5 minutes but not actually doing any kitty business and in obvious discomfort.

We raced him to the vet and by the time she saw us he was wailing each time he tried to pee and what little urine he was passing was almost entirely blood!

I was a complete mess cos I was so worried about my pawphin that the vet ended up giving me hugs and passing me tissues!

Anyway she managed to get enough of the miniscule amounts of pee he was passing to perform a urine test. He has been diagnosed with Feline Urological Syndrome which is when small sharp crystals form in the urine of effected cats. The vet thinks this has been the problem all along and that his acting out was his way of trying to get my attention that he wasn't feeling well.

So now my beloved Pawpad is on anti-inflammatory meds & a radically altered diet to ...

This is what happens when you dont have books/telly/internet to keep you entertained....

Who had the most children in the world?

Back in the 1700's in Shuya, Russia lived a peasant named Feodor Vassilyev who had two wives.

No he did not have two wives at the same time, regardless, it's his first wife that interests us anyways.

Seems being a peasant in the 1700's in Shuya, Russia is quite boring and there's not much to do so Mrs. Feodor Vassilyev kept busy having children.

In fact she had the world's most children ever recorded.

Between 1725 and 1765 Mrs. Feodor Vassilyev had 69 children from 27 pregnancies which included 16 sets of twins, 7 sets of triplets and 4 sets of quadruplets.

I want to be loved like this...

An incredible love story has come out of China recently and managed to touch the world.

It is a story of a man and an older woman who ran off to live and love each other in peace for over half a century. Over 50 years ago, Liu, a 19 year-old boy, fell in love with a 29 year-old widowed mother named Xu. At that time, it was unacceptable and immoral for a young man to love an older woman. To avoid the market gossip, the couple decided to elope and lived in a cave in Jiangjin County in Southern ChongQing area. In the beginning, they had nothing, no electricity or even food. They had to eat grass and roots they found in the mountain, and Liu made a kerosene lamp that they used to light up their lives.

In the second year of living in the mountain, Liu began and continued for over 50 years, to hand-carve the steps so that his wife could get down the mountain easily.

Half a century later in 2001, a group of adventurers were exploring the forest and were surprised to find the elderly couple and the over 6,00...

Good times

Yesterday should have been a terrible day as I was "eyes falling out of my head" tired after pulling an all-nighter to write a story for class.

BUT

Instead I had a fantastic day!

I got my story done and (touch wood!) I think it is a good 'un. I am proud of it anyway.

The lovely people at Penguin Publishing sent me two books I badly want to read/review on same day courier so they arrived the same day as I requested them. Gotta love that!

I won a web cam from the lovelyfolk at George FM :P

I think I did well in my test yesterday afternoon too - def passed but will have to wait to see how well I did.

Aced shorthand "pre-test" yesterday and 99% sure (touch wood...again!) that I passed the actual test of 50 words per minute today too.

Up and Down

It's been a strange old up and down day.

UP - Paddy seems to be on the mend...although I do suspect the vet was right and it is a behavioral response. He and Frankie are really not getting along atm, exasibated by Michael being away last week and me having to divvy up my cat cuddling time with her and Guntha as well as Sir Paddington which he really didn't like (case in point - he sprayed on Frankie's sleeping spot...in our bedroom...on my clothes .)

DOWN - I had the absolute shite night of sleep spending from around 2.30am to 5.45am awake and tossing and turning trying to fall back asleep.

UP - I did my first professional interview and it went really well! I went in armed with my list of prepared questions but was able to generate heaps more through the conversation with my subject (a skill we have to learn.) I am hoping to do really well with this assignment cos my interview lady was so lovely and I wanna do her proud (even though I have never met her before!)

DOWN - I saw ...

Pawphin

Poor old Paddy - just got back from taking him to the vets after a very long and unhappy night with him desperately trying to pee and nothing happening.

But....

After a very thorough exam there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with him!

Basically the vet believes the symptoms he is displaying are due to stress and manifesting themselves physically as needing to constantly urinate. He is being a cat hypochondriac!

So some pain relief is the prescription to try and fool him into thinking he is healed and if that doesn't work then it's kitty anti anxiety medication. :S

Day 3

I get to experience real human contact this evening - yay! Our three cats are wonderful for cuddles but great conversationalists they are not.

The girls of my class are having a coffee/dessert get together at Iguana and I can't wait. I wanna hear all the gossip from what happened after Michael and I left our class bbq on Saturday ;)

I have spent the day watching the comings and goings of our neighbours.

I can't report much about the activities of the Chinese family on our left - they keep their curtains and blinds drawn 24/7. I hate to think how musty and fungally their house must be.

The couple on the corner who have the blazing domestics have been quiet of late too - the cops haven't been for at least 2 weeks now. I think 3 weeks is the record since we moved here. :S

The students in the house next door have been moving out the last couple of days. A big skip arrived Sunday morning and within 2 hours it was full to overflowing with broken furniture and ...

Day 2

I didn't sleep very well last night. It was odd being in our bed all alone. Also maybe I wasn't used to hearing the rain on the roof. It is still raining now - beautiful, nourishing rain which the Waikato so badly needs. I feel like running outside and dancing in it except I don't want to stop any precious drops from reaching the draught ravenged soil ... and I don't fancy spending my two week break with a cold.

I realised last night that it was the date that Michael and I moved in together in our house in Palmy. Time sure flies! So much has happened in that year. Fingers crossed there will be many more ahead of us.

Day 1

Day one of my week all by myself has begun; I dropped Michael at the airport at 6.20am this morning so he could fly to Palmerston North for work. He is scheduled to return on Friday night.

I miss my honeypot already.

It's raining gently here at the moment, as it has been all day, the perfect match to my melancholy mood.

It's not all doom and gloom though - I am on holiday for the next two weeks though have plenty of assignments and study to keep me busy.

As Senators Obama and Clinton battle it out for the USA Democrat president candidacy, my own sweep to power has taken place;

Today I was voted Class President!!!!!!!!!

I didn't think I had much of a hope even though I was pretty keen for the job; the oldest person on our course (an ancient 45 year old!) is a really lovely woman and popular with everyone and seemed a shoe in. It was decided we would all give an impromptu 1 minute speech on why we should be our class representative and after I went first, two of the other contenders dropped out and the remaining nominee really didn't have much of a chance as he is very unpopular/inappropriately outspoken. I won 13 votes to 2 (I didn't vote for myself and unpopular/inappropriately outspoken guy voted for himself) :D

I am kinda proud and really excited!! I consider this a victory for every girl that was uncool and unpopular at High School and was never gonna get voted for Class anything other than geek/goody-two-shoes/person you didn'...
