A Catch Up
Thursday 28 December 2006 - 4.44pm
|
First of all, I hope everyone had a safe and happy Christmas where ever you may be and who ever you may have been with and that you are all getting in the party spirit for the rapidly approaching New Years!
My Christmas was understated but lovely. Michael and I spent Christmas Eve together playing Kings Quest II (amazing how old school games still hold so much allure!) and gave in to temptation and exchanged one gift each. I gave Michael a pair of gorgoues satin boxer shorts with steaming cupcakes and the words "stud muffin" all over them His gift to me was rather more R18 rated I will not pollute your delicate imaginations with more detail.
Christmas morning we slept in deliciously late and then opened the rest of our presents in bed I was very lucky to get the 10th anniversary edition of the Crowded House Farewell to the World DVD (swoon!) and... a set of awesome speakers and a subwoofer for my computer!!!!!! For those of you who do not know, I don't own a stereo these days as my beloved fat tat Paddy has broken 3 at last count by climbing up on them and seating his hefty 6kg bum on the top loading cd player. Who knew warrenties dont cover cd player death by lard arsed cat So anyway, now I have awesome sounds for listening to my music on my PC instead of the terrible tinny sounding dodgy el cheapo speakers I previously had. I bass!!!!
Michael seemed to love his gifts from me too: a flying fox ride at Gravity Canyon, a desk top stress toy and a professional poker chip and card set. Am feeling very proud of myself since the birthday gifts were not the success I had hoped they would be.
We had Christmas lunch with Michael's family at his parents house here in PN. They are such lovely people! We had a delicious lunch and fun hanging out in the afternoon trying not to fall asleep as our meal digested. We went back to my place in the late afternoon and set up my pretty new speakers and smooched with my kitties before having a very lax dinner of toasty pie sandwiches since neither of us actually felt like a proper tea!
Boxing day was spent searching the shops for a tent in the morning (yay for Mitre 10 Mega - I think the only store in town not having a big sale) and then having Christmas meal round II with my family at my sisters house in Foxton; food and spoilt neice and nephews galore!
Since then, the past couple of days have been decidedly lazy. I am more or less permantently encamped at my beloved's atm (my landlord must be loving the rent for nothing at my place!) and our days consist of sleeping late, making brunch, lolling round the house with me reading and cross stitching (I have made a pretty bookmark so far) while the boy plays computer games, going to my place to visit and smooch the kitties and give them dinner, a quick trip to town and/or the supermarket and then back to his place to make dinner and vege out for the evening. Very productive!
Things are set to get more fecund though; my besty is coming to visit (morning and travel sickness allowing) on Saturday which also coincides with Michael and I's 1 year anniversary together Sunday is New Years prep followed by New Years partying - as yet unknown where this will take place though (no, we arent leaving things to the last minute..not at all! ) Monday will be recovering from New Years before leaving in the afternoon for a week of holidaying!
First stop will be Tauranga for a night and staying in the newly purchased tent since I have never spent a night in a tent before Then on to Auckland the following day and staying at... Michael's ex girlfriends flat I am not hugely happy about this (does anyone blame me?) but funds are limited and Michael has reassured me unreservedly of his love and devotion to me and that this is merely a means to an ends etc. Sigh. Needless to say we will also be having the dinner at the Sky Tower while we are up there. I am sure it will all be fine. Must remember to pack my positive mind set in my suitcase. That and my nail file, useful for gouging out evil ex girlfriends eyes... or so I have heard.
We will come back to Taupo on Friday 5th for 2 days of go karting over the weekend and then back to PN late on Monday the 8th (my 25th birthday - :eep: eek!) before starting back at work on the Tuesday.
Phew! I am tired just thinking about it!
Anyway, on that note I shall leave you dear journal friends. Take care and keep smiling and all the best for whatever the New Year brings should I not talk to you before.

My Top Ten
Wednesday 20 December 2006 - 9.09pm
|
After much careful deliberation, I have compiled my own top ten, as inspired by Miss seraphyna.
So without further ado, and in no particular order:
The Divine Michael Buble - sometime actor and swing singer.
Why The HOTTEST thing to come out of Canada - quite simply sex on a stick with a voice of pure golden syrup. Ridiculously funny to boot. A true showman. *Swoon*
(and I have just realised he has the same initials as my beloved...curious...)
Colin Firth
Why Devilishy handsome with an adorable accent. Looks damn fine in a wet white shirt.
Richard Hammond
Why The adorable Hamster; quick witted, cute and knows about and owns lots of cool cars. Loves dogs. Am certain is in need of a good nurse after his recent high speed/near death accident
Kevin Costner
Why How can you not love a man who stars in a gorgeous movie like Field of Dreams or Dragonfly? - handsome, talented (okay so not counting Water World) and getting more sexy/distinguished with age.
Angelina Jolie
Why Every straight woman's fantasty...and I am no different. Mysterious, sexy, lips like pillows...if I were ever to jump the fence she would be my first stop
Robert Downey Jr
Why Stole my heart in Ally McBeal as Larry Paul. Drop dead gorgeous with killer comic timing and dead pan delivery. Would love to offer to help him curb his addictions
Owen Wilson
Why The picture says it all - cute as pie but not pretty perfect, funny and has an almost as hot brother. Doesn't get much better than that.
Stephen Fleming
Why Quite possibly the most drool worthy player to ever take the pitch for New Zealand. Better yet, he leads our country in Cricket and is our most successful captain ever. Doesn't hurt that he is the traditional tall dark and handsome either. Pays to overlook the disgrace of the 1995 Tour to South Africa and those cross dressing photos and dope smoking allegations.
Marti Pellow
Why Lead singer of Wet Wet Wet with soaring voice of power and beauty and coupled with his sexy and fun personality, he makes my knees weak every time. A throw-back to my childhood when I crushed on him badly and kissed the poster of him on the wall beside me bed every night.
Johnny Depp
Why Three words sum him up: Captain Jack Sparrow. *melt*

Two days to go!
Two days to go!
La la la la la la!
Two days to go!
Hip hip hoorah!
Yus, just two more days folks and then I am finished work for 2006!
Then I will have ... counts on fingers...eighteen glorious work free days to luxuriate in. No phone ringing, no accounts, no making copious amounts of coffee and best of all, no evil boss woman!
And there are not one, but two cherries on the top of all this holiday business!
1) my beloved has the same time off!
and
2) our first day off, this Friday 22nd, will see us sleeping in late (natch) travelling to Wellington for a day of shopping with a planned stop for Kapiti Ice Creams on the trip down and then going to see the Twenty/Twenty cricket match at the Cake Tin between New Zealand and Sri Lanka!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woot!
But right now, I am off to help the boy with his Christmas shopping again - even though I swore after the weekend that he was on his own. I simply cannot resist him

Weekend stuff
Sunday 17 December 2006 - 6.55pm
|
It's been a funny old day today. I am feeling the most melancholy (and contrary) I have in ages. Maybe its the weather (Palmy's standard grey skies) or the busy last few days I have had, or the impending doom of work tomorrow tomorrow (only 4 days to go til 2 glorious weeks break). I crave solitude yet I want Michael here with me. I want peace yet I am listening to my favourite sad songs. I am not hungry yet I am eating the chocolate crackles I made earlier.
Friday was not one of my more memorable days at work. My boss was in a really stroppy mood. That said, she only has 3 moods - bitch, bitchier and bitchiest - and on any given day she can fluctuate between the three with no warning. She has decided that, even though our workplace is going to be closed over the Christmas period, she is going to come in and work as she does not want when she takes her annual leave to be dictated to her by higher management. Oh. My. God. No one is going to be around to work with at our workplace nor most of the places we deal with on a daily basis as most sane and well adjusted people want to spend this time with their loved ones. Just reinforces my theory she doesn't have a heart.
Okay, rant over.
It didn't help on Friday that I had no glasses for most of the morning and consequently ended up with a whomping headache. They broke on my late Thurs night as I was wrapping up Christmas presents (who knew this was such a risky task!) and even though I am not technically supposed to drive without them (insert sheepish look here --->) I had no other way of getting to work so what was a girl to do? Of course my friends at work bollocked me when they found out. Ops. Anyway Miriam, one of my dearest work friends partner was dropping her off and going to test drive our C.E.O.s BMW (damn nice car) which they want to buy and he stole my broken frames, took them to my optometrist to be fixed and returned them - isn't that the most darlingest thing?!? Sometimes I have to pinch myself to believe I have the wonderful friends I do. It hasn't always been so.
Friday night was therefore a very lax one with the headache still lurking. We had super yummy Hell Pizza for dinner (mmmm lust!) and played "Sam and Max" on the PC.
Sat was spent trawling round town attempting to help the boy with Christmas shopping for his family. (insert pulling out hair face here --->) Every suggestion I made was vetoed, yet he couldn\'t come up with anything else either. I am feeling all smug that mine is done and not left until Christmas Eve like the past 2 years (not recommended for your mental health).
I was feeling pretty pooched after all this and not at all in a socialising mood but we had a bbq party at Miriam's house in the Pohongina Valley to attend. It's amazing what large quantities of V can do to lift your spirits! That said, it did feel a little odd having such a lovely time when less than 4 kms up the road 3 children had tragically died the day before. Of course this was also a big topic of conversation, not that I contributed much but sat in the corner and wheezed and sneezed with the worst hay-fever I have had in several years. Damn country life, I curse thee! We had a grand time though with food galore - and the best bbq chef (female!) that I have ever encountered and fireworks and a massive bonfire in their back paddock once it got dark.
Which brings me to today, which has been an incredibly lazy one, even by my standards! Slept late, had brunch, left Michael's, arrived at my place, smooched with my kitties, had a nap, made chocolate crackles... and that's about it. I figure I will get productive tonight since I slept for 3 hours (ops) this afternoon so wont be remotely sleepy until after midnight tonight.

Things that go "Crunch" in the night
Thursday 14 December 2006 - 1.21am
|
I was lying in bed reading "No Turning Back" by Joanne Lees (her account of the murder of her boyfriend Peter Falconio and her attempted murder in the Australian Outback - watch bookworm for my thoughts on this coming soon) when I heard the squeal of tyres doing doughnuts uncomfortably close by (although given its a very still night here in Palmy, it is hard to say just how far away they were). "Great" I thought to myself as they carried on for a good twenty minutes. Just when I was getting to the end of my tether (already very frayed after an uncomfortable night out - more about that tomorrow...maybe) there was the sickening thud and crunch of vehicle hitting solid object at speed and the screaming tyres abruptly stopped. Ten minutes later, the sounds of multiple sirens racing to the scene could be heard and then peace descended again.
I will keep an ear and an eye on the local news tomorrow to find out the details.
Stupid dumbass boyracers.
