Bits and Pieces
Tuesday 25 July 2006 - 11.46am

Its pretty quiet here at work today but I am happy a) the sun is shinning and its a beautiful day and more excitingly b) I get to go to Welly for work on Friday! I am taking my car (yay for uber reimbursment of expenses!), though originally they were thinking of flying me since I havent been on a plane before but sadly they worked out that it would be much more convenient for me to drive myself round instead of catching taxis etc. Am very much looking forward to being out of the office though(doesn't happen very often!) and meeting up with my friends Amanada and Huia for dinner/drinks that night before heading home. I haven't seen them since New Years - far too long!
I am currently wishing I could wear a paper bag over my head. I had a patch of psoriasis (a not so pleasant skin condition I am afflicted with) forming on my face so decided to kill it with my psoriasis zapping cream – as you do. What I didn’t know was that it would interact (and not in a good way) with my make up and I am now sporting a very fetching chemical burn on my cheek the size of two 50 cent pieces. It’s hot, it’s red, it’s really unattractive. Yay me. I swear God is up there laughing at me right now.
And in case you were wondering, yup we did end up going to the farewell party at my old workplace and despite all my misgivings, had an absolute blast! We arrived just in time for the 3rd round of a music trivia quiz and got made to join the team coming last which happened to include my old manager - fun. Best of all, our team made a staggering, come from behind charge (thanks largely to my msucial taste for all things modern and poppy) and ended up winning by 2 points!!! We left soon after the trivia prize giving was over (yay for noisy $2 Shop musical instruments - my nephews and neice are going to love them, my sister and her husband will hate me) and just before the Playstation Singstar got rolled out - my boyfriend wasn't keen to hear me do a reprise of my Christmas party Singstar competition winning version of "Material Girl" by Madonna

To go or not to go, that is the question
Friday 21 July 2006 - 7.47pm
|
It's Friday night, and I have a farewell cocktail party for one of the staff at my old workplace to go to. Sadly though, instead of being in front of my bathroom mirror, primping and preening and applying layers of make up to cover my pale end-of-working-week skin and tired Panda eyes, I am sitting swathed in my duvet with the heater going full bore as I contemplate suitable excuses to wriggle my way out of it. Basically, I am tired, it's bloody cold and I am lazy. Plus, it will be mildly awkward returning to my old workplace and mingling with my old workmates...
My beloved boyfriend isn't helping matters much either by being equally apathetic about attending. We make a good pair.
So, in the immortal words of The Clash; do I stay or do I go?
45 minutes to make up my mind...and find something funky but warm to wear...yeah good luck with that

Pleasure and Pain
Sunday 16 July 2006 - 5.26pm

I have learnt two things this weekend in relation to my sore foot
1) Alcohol pain relief therapy works REALLY well.... in the short term. In the long term, you end up hurting top and tail and it's really not fun
2) Walking around Manfeild watching your boyfriend race his kart may be loads of fun but your sore foot will not appreciate it. It is currently blown up so big a puffer fish would be pleased to call it its own
(He came second overall in his class too which is seriously good! )
Back to work tomorrow and it's seriously hard summoning up any enthusiasm right now

It's Not Broken...They Think...
Friday 14 July 2006 - 4.11pm
|
...thoug at 2.20am this morning - 5 hours 15 minutes after my arrival at the hospital - they still couldn't actually agree on if it was or not... but sent me home none the less with no cast, no strapping, nada, zip, nothing, not a one....
Oh but I did get a perscription for Panadol
I am of course referring to my left foot.
It's swollen, it's sore, it's barely usable
*sob*
So how did this munting (for lack of a better word) of my foot occur?
Well there I was happily surfing the net last night curled up in my customary computer position (foot under my) when my two beloved puss-tats decided to have a fight in the middle of my lounge. I threw one slipper at them. The carried on fighting. I threw the other slipper. Same result. I stood up and discovered my foot that had been so comfortably curled up under me had gone to sleep and could not support my weight. A series of loud "CRACKS" issued forth, followed by loud swearing and I ended up on the floor writhing in pain clutching my injured tootsie.
But the cats stopped fighing at least

Mood: In pain - but atleast I got a day off work because of it

The Itchy and Scratchy Show

Last night I had a terrible attack of the bed bugs, subspecies: Brazilian.
Yup, I have reached that uncomfortable stage of itchy regrowth where I spend the better part of my day dreaming of attacking my nether regions with the loofah or surreptitiously jiggling at my desk like a 5 year old in need of Ritalin.
Cos the pain and indignity of the initial experience wasn't enough agony to deal with?
Oh the joys of being a vain modern woman!

One of my friends at work is into this thing called NOW: No Opportunity Wasted - its a TV show and philosophy from Phil Keoghan from The Amazing Race. The basic premise is making a list of things you want to do in your life and making them happen. One of the things on my list was a Brazilian. I mentioned it in passing last night and my boyfriend was VERY enthusiastic. I woke up this morning, it was a beautiful day here and I thought "why not just go get it done?
So i did!
OMG - The pain! The discomfort! The lack of dignity!
I did manage to chuckle through it though; the girl was your total beauty school type - blonde, perfect hair, nails, skin, make up but dense as fuck and had to keep asking me to explain things when we were talking cos I was using too bigger words - Bless her little manicured fingers and toes
So the verdict? Well, its all a little tender down there right now still but that should abate by tomorrow morning. My boyfriend has no idea that I have done it - We are going to a party later and when we get there I intend to show him the free keyring I got ("I survived the Brazilian!") which I am picking will drive him suitably wild with anticipation and resulting in us leaving the party fairly early
BTW i - the play last night was awesome! I got to meet the cast afterwards and Donagh Rees is tiny! Not at all the tall, commanding presence of Nurse Judy on Shortland Street and such a lovely lady, talked to me heaps and was genuinely interested in my thoughts and questions
BTW ii - I was presented with a bouquet of supermarket red carnations last night from my boy
Very sweet but the gift kinda lost its shine when his cat threw up on my clothes after we climbed into bed and I had to clean it up myself.

Mood: Excited
